Quartz Vs Granite Countertops

Quartz Vs Granite

During our many years of exporting quartz surfaces products, we often encounter customers asking us the following questions:

1. Quartz vs granite, which of them is better?
2. Quartz is more expensive, or is granite more expensive?
3. Is quartz more popular or granite more popular?

In other words, many people are interested in the contrast between engineered quartz and natural granite. Let's talk about them today.

Which is better, engineered quartz or natural granite?

I will say that both of them are good.

Why did I say that? The reasons are as follows:

Quartz Vs Granite: Uses

Engineered Quartz mainly use for countertops, such as kitchen countertops, bathroom vanity tops, front desks in office places, and bar counters, which means that the primary use of engineered quartz is countertops.

Can engineered quartz be used on walls and floors?
The answer is yes.

So why is engineered quartz mainly used for countertops instead of floors and walls?

That is because there are many choices for flooring and wall coverings.

For home decoration: You can choose ceramic or wooden flooring, etc .; the wall can be wallpaper or wall cloth.

For shopping malls flooring: sometimes, artificial marble, natural marble, or granite can be cheaper choices than quartz flooring tiles.

With so many choices, many customers will consider choosing cost-effective materials.

Granite widely uses for:

  1. Ground floor;
  2. Building's external wall dry hanging;
  3. Various countertops (including kitchens, bathrooms, worktops, etc. ) but need waterproof.

It seems that where quartz stone can use, granite can also take the function.

So why is engineered quartz so popular in recent years, and the field of countertops, it has grabbed a lot of market share in granite?

Here are some other characteristics of granite:

  1. Granite is a natural stone with chromatic aberration. If it is to use over a large area, it is difficult to find so much granite with similar colors.
  2. Natural granite has small pin-holes, "breathing granite." These holes may hide dirt and stains and may leave odors. If there is no sealing, after using it for a long time, it is relatively unsanitary.
  3. Regarding the source of natural granite: many governments from all over the world, they prohibit mining, to protect the environment. Many granite mines have closed, and their supply has stopped. For example, G681, G682, and other famous granites from China have stopped nowadays.

In response to the above three characteristics, the quartz surface has something to say:

  1. Engineered quartz is a kind of artificial stone, which can control the color difference to a minimal range. It can use in large areas.
  2. Engineered quartz has little water absorption, no pin-holes, stain-resistant, and it is very convenient for users to clean. After a few years of use, it is still free from oil and shines like new.
  3. Artificial quartz stone factories produce engineered quartz. 80% -92% of the raw materials are natural quartz. Natural quartz is sufficient. Never worry about the supply of raw materials cut off. Most quartz stone factories in China use quartz sand from China's local suppliers, and very few of them purchase from India.

In short, in the field of countertops, quartz is indeed a perfect choice, avoiding several small problems that may exist in granite. However, quartz products cannot expose to sunlight for a long time due to its raw materials contain resin, so quartz stone can only use in interior places.
Granite can be used indoors and outdoors, with a broader range of applications.

Quartz Vs Granite: Colors

The granite colors are abundant all over the world. The most famous on the market are granites from mainland China, India, and Brazil, such as China's Shrimp Red Granite G681 and Rusty Yellow Granite G682, Black Galaxy Granite from India and so on.
Every piece of natural granite stone is unique.

The choice of artificial quartz stone is much much more than natural stone because they are a human-made stone. R & D personnel can freely play with various colors.
But new product development should base on market trends.
If customers do not pay for new designs, then these new designs can not exist for a long time.
The quartz stone industry is similar to the ceramic tile industry in that the popular color system of quartz stone will continuously update with the development of the market.
In order not to be eliminated by the market, practitioners in the quartz stone industry need to keep abreast of market trends and meet market demand.

Quartz Vs Granite: Cost

The price of granite mainly determined by the quarry owner in combination with the market price. Overall, Chinese granite is cheaper than Brazilian granite.

The price of Chinese quartz stone is generally higher than that of Chinese domestic granite.
(The cost of Shanxi black granite is also quite high.)

There are many colors of quartz stone; they require different processes, different technology, different production efficiency, different output per unit time, so the price is different for different series. (Normally one set may have one price range.)

If the budget of your project is tight, then consider Chinese granite.
If your project positions at the mid-to-high end and requires for countertops, then China's quartz stone is your best choice.

If your project requires perfect quality, and you have enough budget, you can consider European-produced quartz stones, such as Silestone, Stone Italiana, Compac quartz, or Israel's Caesarstone.
Their quality and service are excellent.
(Of course, it does not rule out that occasionally you may meet some bad quality products from Europe.)

Quartz Vs Granite: Popularity

Granite has been popular for many years.

Quartz has been in the market for more than 30 years, but in recent years, quartz has become more and more popular with consumers in the field of countertops. It is better than granite in terms of physical and chemical properties.

Natural granite, after all, is a natural stone, which is more attractive. Quartz is a reconstituted stone, and the color looks more monotonous.

Quartz Vs Granite, I think quartz stone will occupy a part of the market share of the countertop market, and consumers will still love granite as before.

Some people ask me, isn't granite radiation?

In my opinion, most of the radioactivity of granite has no harm to our health. This radiation is just a little. Do not worry.

So, in summary:

If it is for home improvement:

For indoor countertops, I recommend you choose artificial quartz stone; Outdoors, you can only select granite or other alternatives.

If it is a large shopping mall floor, you can choose:

  • Artificial marble;
  • Artificial quartz stone;
  • Natural granite;
  • Or many other options.
